Constantia property diva Shanaz Sity-Herskovitz has just been named as the Chas Everitt International property group’s national Top Agent in a metro area for the past year.
She also won the Top Agent Western Cape award – for the third time since joining the group in 2003 – and of course it doesn’t hurt that she has herself been resident in Constantia since 1989 and that she is “a very social person” with lots of friends and a big network of contacts.
“However,” says Berry Everitt, CEO of Chas Everitt International, “what has really set Shanaz apart in the past year is her determination, commitment, guts and sheer hard work. These qualities have enabled her to keep on achieving sales even in a dreary market and set a fine example to other agents in the group.”
Born in Cape Town, Sity-Herskovitz moved to Johannesburg to take up her first job in the financial department of Burhose SA. On returning to Cape Town a few years later, she worked for the Harmony Group and The Leisure Corporation, and earned a paralegal qualification in conveyancing.
She entered the residential real estate industry in 1999 and worked for two other major groups before joining Chas Everitt International, “after which I never looked back,” she says.
Having been the group’s top Western Cape performer in 2004, 2005 and again last year, she has also been named by the Property Magazine as one of the most prominent women in real estate, and in 2006 was also a finalist for the national Nedbank Property Professional of the Year award.
In the past few months, her achievements include the sale of four Constantia properties within one five-week period, including a home in a gated estate where many top sports celebrities live for R8,4m, but she says the “numbers” are not as important as being trusted and respected by her clients.

“It’s also great to win awards and get recognition from your peers,” she says, “but the biggest kick for me is still to get thank-you notes from satisfied sellers or buyers who are happily settling into their new homes.”
